How to run 5 km

So I thought about it. And I did not want to push as at the end of the day I am a comfort lover, I don’t like struggle and surely I don’t like pain. But there was the thing, I knew, I couldn’t move forward with that approach I had to get better. Better. Stronger. Faster.

And I did. I really did push myself. I set the speed higher than I used to set (11 km/hr instead of 10) and I ran. I ran like there is no tomorrow. Yet I didn’t die. I knew that that will only make me stronger and I ran. I never stopped and I never lowered the speed and the only thought I bore in mind is getting to this magic “5”. And I did! Yes, I did! Out of breath, sweaty and red-faced I came to the finish. I was a winner that exact second, that particular time and I made it my star I will follow every single time I will run 5km.

Every time I run now and I run 4-5 times a week I remember the first time and I know, I can. This knowledge, this memory of victory and the taste of it makes me do it again and again. I set a new goal and I reach it and that’s how I do it. I do it not because I know someone else has done it and that’s why I can do it too, but because I proved to myself that I, myself, can reach the standard.Of cause there are better days when it’s easier and there are times when it’s hard to ran for as long as 5 minutes, but I know that something I could do before is never going away. My ability to run 5 kilometres the speed I set and incline I set.
I won it back then I am going to win it again and again. After all every challenge is fought is our head before the physical straggle. You need to win this just once and you forever remain the winner.

There are some things you may consider in order to make your run as easy as possible:

Music. I never run without my selection of mp3 tracks. I read this article of Times once and I found that it really does work. Some music can make your run easier synchronising your heartbeat and the bass of the track. I downloaded soundtracks from Rocky and it really did help to get there faster and with the higher incline. There is something I discovered myself thought. It doesn’t have to be a particular rhythm or the bass as long as the song is something which makes you move, run, fill with emotions. Some of the Madonna songs work for me but you can find any song refreshing and motivating as longs as you feel like it.
Another thing is shoes. I spend 2 years running in tennis shoes because I liked the weight of them. I felt like something was dragging me to the ground and (so I thought) it felt good. But it didn’t help as I found out. Once I bought proper running shoes it was a whole different story. I felt like suddenly I had winds! It was easier and more fun that it used to. So if you are planning becoming a runner don’t save on shoes.Remember: running 5km is not easy, it will never be easy but you can do it if you push yourself once this time. Time after time it doesn’t stop being a straggle but you find a way to enjoy it and hundreds of times later you come to the finish and you are fine. You face is still red but you are smiling. Happy running!
